Who It’s For

A modern room wants a fire you can see from more than one side. You need a bay fireplace that frames into ordinary walls and protects what hangs above it. The Urbana U50 is for the new build or remodel that wants a three-sided glass gas fireplace.

What Makes It Special

Built as a three-sided bay, it uses a glass-to-glass seal instead of steel pillars, so you see the fire from any angle, and a second layer of ultra-clear glass gives surface protection. Corner kits convert it to a left or right corner, and a single-sided kit gives a flush linear look.

A 3D stainless steel burner shapes the flame over your choice of driftwood, traditional split, or birch logs, river rock with twigs, glass, shale, or vermiculite. An optional color LED lighting kit can run from a mobile app. Adjustable top firebox lights come standard and run from the included remote.

The Cool Surface System channels rising heat up inside the chase, protecting a TV or artwork mounted on the wall above. Urbana certifies it as a gas fireplace heater, and it can be framed in with combustible finishes such as drywall, shiplap, or tile. Urbana fireplaces are made by Sherwood Industries in Victoria, British Columbia.

Possible Downsides

• It needs a ventilated chase. Urbana calls for chase intake and heat release areas; plan them with the framing.

If you want a fire you can see from three sides, the Urbana U50 is the right decision. The fire becomes the room’s centerpiece from every seat.

Choose the log set or media, the liner (painted steel, fluted, or Infinity black glass), the bezel, and corner or single-sided kits.
