Town & Country: TC42 Outdoor Gas Fireplace

A big traditional fire for the outdoor room, protected from the wind.

Quick Facts

• Heating Capacity: Designed for ambiance, not as a heat source.
• Viewing Area: 40 1/2″ wide
• Fuel: Natural gas; propane with a conversion kit.
• Controls: Wall switch.

Who It’s For

A large outdoor living space needs an anchor, and a small fire gets lost against the open sky. You need a full-size fireplace that holds up outside. If your patio or outdoor room is big enough to need a centerpiece, the TC42 Outdoor gives you the flagship’s large fire in a body made for the weather. A smaller outdoor unit reads as an accent; this one reads as the room’s hearth.

What Makes It Special

The firebox is sealed, and the ceramic glass sits in a stainless steel frame, so wind can’t push the flames around and you keep a clean, clear view of them.

It takes the same burners as the indoor TC42, including the Split Log and Split Log Heritage sets, over nine panels in handcrafted brick or porcelain.

Possible Downsides

• It is built for outdoor use only; for one fire shared between inside and out, see the WS54 Indoor-Outdoor See-Through.
• The Split Log and Split Log Heritage burners need their own outdoor propane kits, sold separately.
• It runs from a wall switch, not a remote.

If your outdoor room needs a fire big enough to anchor it, the TC42 Outdoor is the right decision. The outdoor room finally has a center, and everyone pulls their chairs toward it.

Choose the Country Home, Heartwood, Birchwood, Chalet II, Split Log, Split Log Heritage, Black Diamond, or Tranquility burner, then finish the firebox in Park Avenue, Manhattan, Aspen, Mount Vernon, or Madison brick, or black, coffee bean brown, titanium, or copper porcelain; andirons are available for the log sets.
