Who It’s For

Plenty of families want the fire they grew up with—tall flames, a stack of logs, a firebox that looks like masonry—without hauling wood or sweeping ash. You need a gas fire that reads as a real hearth from across the room. If you’re building or remodeling a living room or family room of ordinary size and want that traditional look, the TC36 is the one we’d point you to. A typical gas unit gives you a row of flames behind a frame; this one gives you a hearth.

What Makes It Special

Town & Country builds the TC36 to recreate the look of a full-flame, wood-burning hearth. Pair the Heartwood or Birchwood logs with handcrafted brick panels and it reads as masonry; switch to Black Diamond glass over porcelain and the same fireplace turns modern.

Every firebox is welded along continuous seams to cut out distracting noises, so the fire stays the quiet center of the room. The face is clean, with no louvers or visible controls, and a nearly invisible built-in screen keeps small hands off the hot glass.

Possible Downsides

• It’s certified as a decorative fireplace, not a heater; if warming the room is the goal, look at a heater-rated fireplace instead.
• The Country Home log set is natural-gas only; propane homes choose from the other five burners.
• It shows the fire to one room; for a fire two rooms share, see the TC36 See-Through.

If you want the look of a real wood-burning hearth at the press of a button, the TC36 is the right decision. The fire you remember from your grandparents’ house, every evening, with nothing to sweep.

Choose the Country Home, Heartwood, Birchwood, Chalet II, Black Diamond, or Tranquility burner, then finish the firebox in Park Avenue, Manhattan, Aspen, Mount Vernon, or Madison brick, or black, coffee bean brown, titanium, or copper porcelain; andirons are available for the log sets.
