Who It’s For

Most wood fireplaces look good and send their heat up the chimney. You need a wood fireplace that heats the house. The Supreme Astra 18 is for the new build or remodel that wants a clean-face wood-burning fireplace Supreme rates for 500 to 1,500 sq ft.

What Makes It Special

A stainless-steel firebox is lined with reversible cast-iron panels, stamped with a brick pattern on one side and a flowing contemporary design on the other. A patented automatic air control cuts back the combustion air after lighting to the burn rate you set, so the fire settles into a steady, consistent burn.

Secondary air enters through a perforated baffle instead of air tubes, for an unobstructed view of the fire, and a sweeping cap in the baffle lets the chimney be cleaned without removing parts. It is certified to the 2020 federal clean-burning standard.

Possible Downsides

• It is a wood fire. You haul and store wood, clean ash, and sweep the chimney.
• The blower is a kit. Supreme offers a variable-speed blower kit to move more heat into the room.

If you want a wood fireplace that heats like a stove, the Supreme Astra 18 is the right decision. The fireplace carries the house through the cold nights.
