Who It’s For

Most linear gas fireplaces are a wide, low ribbon of flame, and in a room with tall ceilings that ribbon reads as a slot in the drywall rather than a fire. You need a fire scaled to the wall it lives in. If you’re building or remodeling a room where the fireplace wall is the room—a two-story great room, an open plan, the wall every seat faces—the Napoleon Tall Vector 74 is the one to look at. A standard-height linear will warm the room just fine; this one is the one the whole room is built around.

What Makes It Special

The glass runs 76 9/16″ wide and 26 13/16″ tall—nearly six and a half feet of fire, roughly twice the height of a typical linear. It’s visible from every seat, and a see-through version is available if you want the same fire showing in two rooms at once.

The remote and the eFIRE app are both included, so on, off, flame height, and the multi-colored LED ember bed are all handled from the couch or your phone. Pick an ember color that fits the room, or change it with the season, without getting up.

Add the optional Dynamic Heat Control system and the wall above stays cool enough that a TV can hang directly above a recessed installation—no fan required, so nothing hums while it works. The plus and ducted kits go further, moving warm air to another room or outdoors instead of letting it stack at the ceiling.

Possible Downsides

• A media kit is a required separate selection. The firebox needs logs, driftwood, birch, glass, or mineral rock chosen to complete it.
• The fan kit and heat-management systems are optional, not included. Plan on Dynamic Heat Control if a TV is going above the fire.
• It builds into a framed wall, not an existing fireplace. If you have a masonry fireplace to fill, an insert is the right category instead.

If you want the fire to be the architecture of the room instead of an accent in it, the Tall Vector 74 is the right decision. The wall it lives in becomes the room everyone ends up in.
