Who It’s For

Put a fireplace on a shared wall and one room gets the fire while the other gets drywall. You need a fire both rooms can share. If you’re dividing a great room from a dining room, or you want the fire itself to be the wall, this is the shopper you are: someone planning around the fireplace, not squeezing it in. Pick a single-sided unit instead and one room gets everything while the other faces the back of it. The Napoleon Tall Linear Vector 74 See-Through gives the fire to both.

What Makes It Special

The fire runs more than six feet wide, stands tall instead of low and thin, and you see it from either side of the wall—every seat in both rooms faces flame. And it delivers taller flames without burning more gas: the design raises the fire’s height without raising fuel consumption, so the showpiece look doesn’t come with a showpiece gas bill.

Top lights wash the firebox from above, and the ember bed light can be set to any color from the included remote or the eFIRE app—along with on/off and flame height—so the fire matches the evening, not the other way around.

If it’s going into a room-divider wall, the optional ducted heat management system lets you pass cables safely through the wall for electronics, and the optional Dynamic Heat Control system lowers wall temperatures enough to hang a TV or artwork above a recessed installation.

Possible Downsides

• The fire’s media is chosen separately, not included—driftwood, oak, or birch logs, wrought iron globes, and a glass kit are picked when you order.
• Heat management is an add-on; putting a TV directly above the fireplace means adding the Dynamic Heat Control kit.
• This is the largest of three sizes; for a smaller wall, look at the Tall Linear Vector 50 or 62.

If you want one fire that both rooms get to keep, the Tall Linear Vector 74 See-Through is the right decision. The wall between the two rooms becomes the reason everyone ends up in both.
