Who It’s For

Some rooms were never going to get a fireplace—a bedroom, a condo, a wall with no gas line and no way to run venting. You need a fire that looks and sounds real without gas or a chimney. If the fire itself is the reason you’re doing this—the movement, the glow, the sound—and the room ruled out gas, this is the one to look at. Choose a basic electric and you get a flame effect; choose the Napoleon Luminex and you get a fire that moves and sounds like one.

What Makes It Special

The Luminex draws its fire on an advanced LCD screen, and its built-in speakers match the crackle and pop to the flame pattern you’re watching—each flame comes with its own sound. The tinted glass keeps the flames vivid even in bright sunlight, so the fire holds up in a daylight room, not just after dark.

It also installs three ways—three-sided, two-sided in a corner, or standard one-sided—so the same unit works on a flat wall, a corner, or a room divider. Once it’s in, make it yours: wood, gas, or gas-with-logs flame patterns, six flame colors, and 13 ember bed and top light colors from the remote, with more combinations in the Napoleon Home app. ECO mode runs at half heat to use less energy; BOOST runs the heater at max with a faster fan for cold mornings.

Possible Downsides

• It warms the room it’s in, not the house—think comfort heat for one space, not a furnace.
• Full heat output requires a hardwired 240V connection; on a standard 120V circuit it delivers half the heat.
• Birch logs, mineral rocks, black crystals, and glass beads are add-on media kits, not included with the unit.

If you want a fire that looks and sounds real in a room where gas was never an option, the Luminex is the right decision. The room it’s in becomes the room the house lives in.

Media options include birch logs, mineral rocks, black crystals, and glass beads in amber, black, blue, clear, or topaz, plus an optional wall mount controller with a black or white faceplate.
