Who It’s For

The wall is framed, or about to be, and gas isn’t a sure thing—maybe the line doesn’t reach it, maybe you’re just not ready to commit. You need a built-in fire that doesn’t lock the wall into one fuel. If you want a fire that looks real from across the room, needs no venting, and leaves the gas question open, this is the one to look at. Choose a standard electric box and the framing is committed; choose the Elevation Electric and the same rough opening accepts a Napoleon Elevation gas fireplace whenever you’re ready, because the two share the same rough framing.

What Makes It Special

The fire is built in three layers of flame that move like a real fire—orange and yellow, growing from front to back and side to middle, with five speeds and brightness levels. Glowing split oak logs and a modulating ember bed sit underneath, and the tinted glass keeps the flames standing out even in bright sunlight, so you see the fire, not the room reflected in the glass.

Every function runs from the couch: the included remote handles power, thermostat with a seven-day schedule, flame, ember bed, and top lights, and the Napoleon Home app opens up more combinations than the remote carries. Set 70 and it holds the room there on its own. ECO mode runs at half heat to use less energy; BOOST turns the heater to max with more air behind it for a cold morning.

Possible Downsides

• Full heat takes a 240V connection. On a standard 120V outlet it delivers half the warmth.
• It warms the room it’s in, not the whole house. If you need more heat, an Elevation gas fireplace fits the same framing.
• The wall-mount control is optional, not included.
