Who It’s For

There’s a wall in your house that should have a fire on it, and no chimney or gas line anywhere near it. You need a fireplace that adapts to the wall instead of a wall rebuilt around a fireplace. If you want the fire hanging flat in a bedroom, sitting flush in the living room, or open on two or three sides of a peninsula, the Astound FlexMount is the one. Choose a standard one-sided unit and the room gets a fireplace; choose this one and the fireplace takes the shape the room asks for.

What Makes It Special

Most electric fireplaces install one way: flat on the wall. This one goes in wall-mounted, partially recessed, or fully recessed, as a 1-, 2-, or 3-sided fire—and the finishing edge panels and trim come in the box, so the edges look deliberate whichever way it goes in.

The fire itself holds up to a long look. Orange and yellow flames rise over a Beach Fire Log set and Woodland media kit, with an effect that mimics the drifting sparks of a real wood fire, and 13 ember bed and top light colors on the included remote—more combinations in the Napoleon Home app.

You run it from the couch or from across town: the remote covers on/off, thermostat, and a 7-day schedule, the app saves your favorite settings, and Google Home and Alexa run it by voice. ECO mode holds a low, steady warmth on less power; BOOST pushes the heater and fan to full for a cold morning.

Possible Downsides

• Full heat requires hardwiring to a 240V circuit by an electrician. On a standard outlet it delivers half its maximum output.
• It’s a one-room warmer, not a furnace. Plan on it as comfort heat while the central system carries the rest of the house.

If you want a fireplace shaped to your room instead of a room reshaped for a fireplace, the Astound FlexMount is the right decision. The room with the empty wall becomes the one everyone ends up in.

Included media are the Beach Fire Log set and Woodland media kit; optional kits add birch logs, mineral rocks, black crystals, and glass beads in amber, black, blue, clear, or topaz, and the optional wall-mounted controller comes with a black or white cover.
