Modern Flames: Redstone 30" Traditional Electric Fireplace

Turn the fireplace you never use into one you use every night—plug it in and it’s done. The 30-inch Redstone slides into an existing wood-burning fireplace or builds in flush, and plugs into a standard outlet.

Quick Facts

• Heating Capacity: 0–500 sq ft
• Viewing Area: 28″ wide
• Fuel: Electric.
• Controls: Remote and a touch-button panel with digital thermostat and timer.
• Fan: Included

Who It’s For

A wood fireplace takes hauling, lighting, and cleaning, so most nights it just sits there. You need a fire that starts with a button. If you have a standard living room fireplace and want the look of a traditional fire without a gas line, venting, or firewood—and you want to keep the project simple—the 30-inch Redstone is the one. Leave the opening empty and it stays a dark box; plug this in and you have a fire, with or without heat, any night of the year.

What Makes It Special

A glowing log set over an acrylic crystal ember bed gives it a traditional look, and the flame, the ember bed, and the downlighting each take their own color from a choice of ten. The touch-button panel has a digital thermostat and a timer, and the remote controls the heat and the flame separately.

It’s built for a simple job: it plugs into a standard outlet, comes with do-it-yourself installation instructions and a finish trim kit, and can be installed beneath a TV. The fan-forced heater gives supplemental zone heating for up to about 500 square feet, and the flames run with the heat off for year-round use.

Possible Downsides

• The flame is LED-lit, not drawn on a screen; for a screen-drawn fire in an existing fireplace opening, look at the Orion Traditional.
• It’s supplemental zone heat for up to about 500 square feet, not a whole-house heater.

If you want your existing fireplace back in use without gas, venting, or wood, the 30-inch Redstone is the right decision. The opening that sat dark all year becomes the room everyone ends up in.

Options include small and large surround trim kits to frame your existing opening, and the TruWood Premium Timber log kit sized for 26–30-inch units.
