Who It’s For

Two rooms that share a wall can share a fire. You need one that looks right from both sides. The Kingsman MCVST42 See-Through is for a wall between two living spaces where both should see the flame. Put a single-sided fireplace there and one room gets the fire while the other gets the back of a box.

What Makes It Special

The standing-pilot or electronic-ignition valve keeps working during a power failure, with hi/low heat and flame adjustment; the electronic version runs from a wall-mount battery holder when the power is out.

This is the standard version with tempered glass, rated for ambiance and taking the chill out of the room; the ceramic-glass version is the higher-efficiency choice for more warmth.

Possible Downsides

• The fan kit is optional. Without it, the fireplace heats by radiance.
