In an open room, a fireplace set into one wall only faces one direction. You need a fire people can see from wherever they sit. The Kingsman MCVP42H Multi-Sided is for a peninsula or room divider where the fire shows on three sides. Choose a front-only unit and half the room looks at a wall.

What Makes It Special

A peninsula (pier) clean view fireplace, open on the front and both ends, so the fire is visible from three sides of the room.

The standing-pilot or electronic-ignition valve keeps working during a power failure, with hi/low heat and flame adjustment; the electronic version runs from a wall-mount battery holder when the power is out.

This is the higher-efficiency version with ceramic glass, the choice for additional warmth; the standard version is rated for ambiance and taking the chill out of the room.

Possible Downsides

• The remote is optional on the standing-pilot version. The Proflame II electronic version includes one.
