What Makes It Special

The Supreme Ponderosa has a massive two-piece front log and large top logs, designed for larger fireplaces.

It belongs to Hargrove’s Charred styles: deep bark detail and smoky charring on refractory logs rated for more than 2000°F, reinforced with metal mesh, and hand painted one log at a time.

You pick the burner and the controls to suit the way you want to use it. Hargrove backs the logs with a limited lifetime warranty in the fireplace they were first installed in, the burner and grate for five years, and valves and remotes for two.

Possible Downsides

• It is for ambiance, not heat. The damper stays open while it burns, so most of the warmth goes up the chimney.
• The burner is sold separately. Plan on a 36-inch Hargrove burner kit with the controls you want.
• Glass doors stay open while it burns. Hargrove’s manual requires the fireplace doors fully open whenever the logs are lit.
