What Makes It Special

The Rustic Timbers has split wood and charred logs that give the look of a mature fire with a warm glow. This version is laid out as a see-through set, so the logs read from both openings.

It sits on Hargrove’s S-shaped See-Thru burner, which Hargrove recommends for its Fresh Cut, Charred, and Radiant Heat logs. The set belongs to the Radiant Heat series. The logs are ceramic fiber, which Hargrove molds with a process that holds detail older fiber logs could not, and the series uses Hargrove’s Radiant Riser technology to push heat forward. Hargrove says the series gives much greater heating efficiency than other vented sets, with heat comparable to vent-free sets and a fire and ember bed vent-free units cannot match.

Hargrove backs the logs with a limited lifetime warranty in the fireplace they were first installed in, the burner and grate for five years, and valves and remotes for two.

Possible Downsides

• It still vents up the chimney. The damper stays open while it burns.
• The burner is sold separately. This set needs the matching Hargrove See-Thru burner.
• Check the firebox first. See-through sets need more depth than single-sided sets; the burner manual lists the minimum fireplace size for the 36-inch set.
