Who It’s For

Rumford fireplaces are tall and shallow, and a standard log set sits low in the opening with empty space above it. You want a fire that fills the height of the opening. The Hargrove Everest Pinnacle 24-inch set is for the homeowner with a tall Rumford-style wood-burning fireplace who wants a real-looking fire without the wood.

What Makes It Special

The Everest Stack is the mid-peak stack in Hargrove’s Pinnacle Series, with an impressive flame height. The logs are detailed ceramic fiber, molded with a process that holds detail older fiber logs could not.

It runs on the Pinnacle burner, a two-level, sandless burner, and Hargrove says the series can go into shallow fireplaces.

Hargrove backs the logs with a limited lifetime warranty in the fireplace they were first installed in, the burner and grate for five years, and valves and remotes for two.

Possible Downsides

• It is for ambiance, not heat. The damper stays open while it burns, so most of the warmth goes up the chimney.
• The burner is sold separately. Plan on the 24-inch Pinnacle burner.
• Glass doors stay open while it burns. Hargrove’s manual requires the fireplace doors fully open whenever the logs are lit.

If your fireplace is tall and ordinary sets look wrong in it, the Hargrove Everest Pinnacle 24-inch set is the right decision. The fire finally fills the opening it was built for.
