Who It’s For

Most electric fireplaces put a flat flame on a dark mirror, and the illusion quits the moment you look closely. You end up with a screen where you wanted a fire. You need an electric flame that reads as real from every seat in the room. If you want the look of a fire and genuine supplemental heat without a gas line, the Revillusion 30 in Weathered Concrete is the one to look at. Pick a standard mirror-flame unit instead and you’ll get the warmth, but never quite the fire.

What Makes It Special

Instead of bouncing its flames off a mirror, the Revillusion flame effect plays them across a partially frosted acrylic panel, so the fire appears to rise from within the logs—and you can see clear through it to the weathered concrete backer behind. No reflections of your lamp or your window. Just the fire and the full depth of the firebox.

The logs themselves are Realogs, handcrafted from real wood, with inner LED lights that pulse like a bed of live coals. Up close is where most electric flames fall apart; this one is built for up close.

It’s also a real heater. The fan-forced heater warms up to 1,000 square feet—a living room and then some—and the flame runs without the heat, so the fire is there on a July evening too. The Mood-Maker remote adjusts the light color and intensity from the couch.

Possible Downsides

• Full heat output requires a hardwired 240-volt connection; plugged into a standard household outlet, it delivers about half the heat.
• The Weathered Concrete backer is fixed; the same firebox comes in Neutral Brick, Herringbone, and Black as separate models.
• No power means no flame and no heat; like any electric fireplace, it doesn’t run through an outage.
