Who It’s For

Most electric fireplaces put a ribbon of flame on a flat panel, and from across the room it reads as light, not fire—the feature meant to anchor the room ends up looking like an appliance. You need an electric fire with depth: logs, flame, and brickwork you can see into. If you want a taller, traditional fire with no gas line, the Revillusion 36 Portrait in the Herringbone backer is the one. A flat-panel electric will glow on the wall; this one holds the room’s attention.

What Makes It Special

Dimplex’s patented Revillusion flame effect plays across a partially frosted acrylic panel set behind the logs, so the fire appears from within the logs and you can see clear through it to the herringbone brick at the back. It’s a full-depth view of a firebox, not a picture of one.

The logs are Realogs—handcrafted from real wood, with LEDs inside that pulse like live embers. The remote shifts the light color and intensity, so the fire can run from a low glow to full flame depending on the evening.

When you want warmth, the fan-forced heater covers up to 1,000 square feet—a large living room and then some. When you don’t, run the flames alone and enjoy the fire in July.
