Building a fireplace usually means a chimney, and that isn’t possible in every room. You need a firebox that frames in without one. The Astria Atlas 36 is for the new build or remodel that wants a 36-inch fireplace for vent-free gas logs. Vent-free keeps the heat in the room.
What Makes It Special
An extra-tall opening with stacked or herringbone refractory sides, back, and hearth with an ash lip; no hood is required.
A hood, outside air kit, blower, and twin-pane screen door are optional. It accepts listed vent-free log sets; Astria recommends its own. Astria backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.
Possible Downsides
• The logs are sold separately. Choose an Astria vent-free gas log set to go in it.
• Vent-free is not allowed everywhere. Check local codes before you plan the room.
If you want a fireplace for gas logs without a chimney, the Astria Atlas 36 is the right decision. The room gets a real fireplace without a chimney on the roof.
