Who It’s For

A room without a fireplace feels unfinished, and a wood fire means hauling wood and cleaning ash. You need a gas fireplace that frames into the wall and looks the part. The Astria Altair 45 is for the new build or remodel that wants a 45-inch traditional direct-vent fireplace. Astria lists it as a gas fireplace heater, so it is built to warm the room as well as look good.

What Makes It Special

Its full-size firebox holds a larger log arrangement of high-definition logs, behind tempered glass, with the façade of your choice.

A wireless wall control gives variable flame on electronic models. A blower and a touch or hand-held remote are optional, and liners can replace the black painted interior. Astria backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.

Possible Downsides

• The blower and remote are optional. Add them for more air movement and couch-side control.

If you want a traditional gas fireplace built into the wall, the Astria Altair 45 is the right decision. The fireplace becomes the place the evening starts.

Choose the façade and interior, and add the blower or remote where they are optional.
