Who It’s For

Most fireplaces earn their keep in winter and sit dark the other half of the year—turn one on in June and you’ve warmed a room that didn’t need it. You need a fire that doesn’t depend on cold weather. If you want a live-looking flame as the room’s centerpiece in every season, wrapping a corner so it shows from two sides, the Optimyst e-MatriX is the one. Pick a heat-producing unit instead and the fire goes off when the furnace does.

What Makes It Special

The flames are made of water vapor and light. Dimplex’s patented Optimyst effect throws LED light through a fine mist rising off a charred log set, and the result is a fire with real depth—flames that drift and curl the way live ones do, with an optional crackling soundtrack. Because there’s no heat behind it, you can run it on the hottest day of August.

There’s also no tank to refill. The e-MatriX connects directly to your water line, so the fire runs continuously, and an overflow sensor shuts the water off automatically to prevent leaks. The surfaces stay cool to the touch—safe around kids, pets, and passing elbows.

Possible Downsides

• No heat at all—this is a flame-only unit; if you want warmth with your fire, look at a heat-producing electric or gas fireplace.
• Needs a water line and a fresh air supply built into the surround, so it’s a planned installation, not a plug-in unit.
• Drafts disturb the flame—like a candle, it shouldn’t sit under a ceiling fan or near a vent.

If you want a fire that looks alive every day of the year without adding a degree of heat to the room, the e-MatriX right-corner is the right decision. The corner it sits in becomes the place everyone looks first—in January and in July.

The e-MatriX comes in four installations—front-facing, left corner, right corner, and bay—each sold separately; this one is the right-facing, two-sided version.
